The blog format and related choices

Currently we are not planning on bringing a laptop so updates to the blog will happen when it is convenient to use a internet cafe. Because the visits to internet cafes may be rather infrequent I am electing not to enable comments so as not to have late replies or to have to deal with spam or rude comments. Even if we do bring a laptop or smart phone, public wireless networks may be few and far between in some places.

We will be checking email so those of you that have our email fire away with any questions or comments. Initially the blog link will be public so you can share it or link to it if you want. Rather than comments I am going to use the email feature available with Google Blogger for strangers to use. If they have interesting questions i will include their questions and our answers in a post.

Both of us are new to blogging so we are keeping it simple with the basic Google Blogger. It has easy integration with Picasa photo management - big surprise it is their product - and I am familiar with that. We will be taking a GPS enabled camera and when you upload those photos to a Picasa web album it adds them to a map interface automatically. This map with pictures from the slide show will be available as soon as we have some of those pictures to post.

I gave Wordpress a bit of a try but the photo integration had to be with Flicker for the basic blog they offer. There are some Picasa plugins but those are if you use the Wordpress software on some other hosted site where you have more control - not going there at this time.
